On Friday, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Kashmir to evaluate the current security landscape following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam.
During his visit, he is expected to receive updates from senior army officials regarding various matters, including the ongoing efforts to capture those responsible for the Pahalgam attack, as well as India's robust response to recent unprovoked fire from Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC).
It remains uncertain whether General Dwivedi will visit the site of the attack at Baisaran meadows, where 26 individuals lost their lives on April 22.
His arrival comes after multiple incidents of firing along the LoC, which prompted a strong retaliatory response from the Indian Army.
Additionally, a gunfight is currently taking place in the Bandipora area, where security forces are engaged in operations to eliminate terrorist threats.
According to an official statement, a Joint Search Operation was initiated on April 25 based on credible intelligence regarding terrorist activity in Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
General Dwivedi's assessment of the security situation is crucial as he plans to formulate strategies for India's assertive response to ceasefire breaches by Pakistan.
His visit is particularly significant given the government's firm stance against terrorism and the implementation of a five-point action plan aimed at addressing threats from across the border.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at a rally in Bihar, emphasized that those behind the Pahalgam attack will face severe consequences.
He declared, "From Bihar's soil, I assure the world that India will identify, pursue, and punish every terrorist and their supporters. We will follow them to the ends of the Earth."
